Kindergarten

The American Baccalaureate School Kindergarten Department has a comprehensive approach to educating and enriching the whole child.  Our goal is to build skills that set students up for success in kindergarten and beyond by providing experiences that are challenging and promote academic, social, emotional, and physical growth.  Within the Kindergarten Department, three developmentally appropriate stages of learning are offered: Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten 1, and Kindergarten 2.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) guides our instruction and supplemental resources are used to support literacy, phonics, and handwriting in order to achieve the best learning outcomes for each child. Arabic, Islamic, STEM and character education, as well as, specials classes such as PE, swimming, computer, and art are offered. Learning takes place through small cooperative groups, whole group lessons, guided centers, and teacher-directed activities.

In the Kindergarten Department, we strive to foster a classroom community where children feel safe, nurtured, and valued while being challenged and motivated to reach their highest potential.  Students are encouraged to share ideas, interact, and engage in activities that develop critical thinking skills and autonomy. Our aim is to develop a life-long love of learning through compassion, respect, and trust.
