ABS Athletics 2011-2012

Welcome to ABS Athletics, home of the Wildcats.  At ABS we are proud to offer both the practical and theoretical aspects of physical fitness as well as the opportunity to compete in a variety of after-school sports in the ISACK and KFSAC leagues.

Our goal at ABS is to encourage our students to live healthy lifestyles and develop good personal fitness habits that will continue throughout their lives.  The Physical Education program starts with our KG students and continues through our students’ senior year of high school.  From a very early age our students will learn how to develop their coordination and maximize their athletic potential through a medium of basic motor skill movements such as forward rolls and handstands to more complex movements incorporated into our high school curriculum of football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton, gymnastics and strike and field games.  Over the course of the year, our students will be exposed to a variety of sports and activities as well as health related topics such as personal health management and nutrition.

In addition to our Physical Education program, ABS has developed an Inter-House competition schedule that runs throughout the year.  Our students, from elementary on up to high school, are divided into four teams – Cheetahs, Lions, Pumas and Tigers and compete throughout the year against one another for school and team pride.  Our Inter-House activities take place during the students’ lunch hour and incorporate a variety of sports that include football, basketball, volleyball, benchball and uni-hoc.

Taking the Inter-House competitions a step further, we have developed a Sports Day program in which the students dedicate an entire day to sports competition.  Our Sports Days are held at the Kuwait Sports Club in Kaifan and incorporate separate days for Elementary grades 1 and 2, Elementary grades 3, 4 and 5, Middle School and High School girls and Middle School and High School boys.  The students are bused from ABS to the Kuwait Sports Club in Kaifan where they compete in several events that include football, Frisbee football, volleyball and kickball.  The day concludes with a catered lunch, a championship round of activities and an awards presentation to the most outstanding team of the day.

At ABS, we take pride in giving our students the opportunity to compete in after-school sports programs that teach our students how to win and lose with pride, the ethics of competition and the value of teamwork and fair play.  ABS has a variety of after-school sports teams that compete in both the ISACK and KFSAC leagues throughout the year.  The leagues offer our students the opportunity to play football, basketball, uni-hoc, volleyball and swim for ABS as they compete with other member schools.  Each season the students play in regular season games, both at ABS and at other schools, that lead up to a championship round as well as being able to compete in one to three day tournaments that are held at different schools and sites throughout the year.

We are fortunate at ABS to be able to offer our students the ability to attend class and compete in a first-rate facility.  Our main gymnasium has two basketball courts, a 16’ climbing wall, a volleyball court and an incredible full-length swimming pool that our students are able to take advantage of on a regular basis each week.

At ABS we strive to provide your son or daughter with the best possible Physical Education curriculum and the opportunity to compete in a variety of after-school sports with the goal of creating a healthy and well rounded student/athlete that is ready to meet the demands of our global society.
